The Philadelphia Flyers drafted Maksim Sokolovskii with the 27th pick in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft.
Sokolovskii, a 6-foot-7 defenseman, was chosen after the Flyers traded down from the 21st spot.
The Flyers traded their 21st pick to San Jose for the 27th selection and additional picks.
This move allowed them to add more draft capital and still select a player they coveted.
The Flyers are currently 8th in the Eastern Conference with a 43-27 record, on a W3 streak.
Sokolovskii's size and physicality will be an asset to the Flyers' defense.
He scored 34 goals and added 50 assists in 65 games for the Atlantic Coast Academy program.
The Flyers will look to develop Sokolovskii and integrate him into their system.
Daniel Briere, the Flyers' general manager, expressed confidence in the team's development process.
Sokolovskii played for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League last season, scoring 2 goals and 6 assists.
The Flyers' last game was a 2-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on 2026-05-09.
And the team will look to bounce back from that loss with their new draft pick.
But for now, the focus is on developing Sokolovskii and preparing for the upcoming season.
So the Flyers will take it one step at a time and see how Sokolovskii progresses.
